How to be a good birdwatcher. Credit to: Cezary Korkosz
Birds are gearing up for another magical migration season, and so are Spring Alive staff, teachers and parents as they prepare nature education activities across Europe, Central Asia and Africa. This year, we would like to welcome a new Spring Alive focal species: the Common Ringed Plover Charadrius hiaticula. This small wading bird joined the gang to better reflect the kinds of species spotted by our participants across Africa. Our theme for this year is how to be a good birdwatcher. As birds migrate from their African wintering grounds to their breeding sites in Europe, children all along the way will be looking out for them. We’ve put together a code of practice for anyone who wants to observe birds in their natural habitat. You will see the code in What can I do for birds? section shortly.
